8-week Intro to Scentwork Class

Service Description

Let's start from scratch, from markers and building value to the odour to finding the odour in any place and any situation. This class is perfect for complete beginners, dogs and humans alike, in fact it is better for the dogs if they've had no previous training in any discipline as we want to work with the dogs in the most natural way as possible to ensure success! This class will focus on KONG as the starting odour for training foundational skills in scentwork and is tailored so that each team (handler and dog) can progress further and take part in Foundation Stage Trials with the National Nosework Association. The Foundation Stage has 3 elements we will cover in class: Interior, Exterior and Selection Test and it requires an ORT (Odour Recognition Test) pass prior to being able to take the Stage Trials. More information is available on www.thenationalnoseworkassociation.co.uk The class will cover: - specific markers for scentwork training - odour imprinting: Kong - indication and building value for indication and odour - line ups - from easy to complex with various items - start cue - start line routine - practice for ORT - intro to Interior search - intro to Exterior search (at home with homework) - intro to Selection test - bolt-on Cloves The price includes a SCENTWORK STARTER KIT (to take home with you and practice) so all you have to do is focus on working with your dog ;) The Starter Kit includes: - Containers with the 3 odours: Kong, Cloves & Gun Oil - Tweezers - Hides - 2x Tins for practice at home You will be supported in class with specific advice tailored to you and your dog, homework and additional exercises to do at home given via email - with videos and explanations, practice in class to get you ready for ORT and Foundation Stage Trials. PLEASE BE AWARE abusive/aversive training and behaviour from a handler towards their dog or myself will not be tolerated in class and you will be asked to leave the class for good!
